Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly denied reports claiming he rejected calls to step down for a southern candidate during an alleged political meeting, dismissing the entire narrative as a “malicious fabrication” by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, Atiku’s camp debunked the story as completely false, describing it as “pure fiction cooked up in the propaganda kitchens of the Tinubu-led APC regime.”
“There was no such meeting. Atiku Abubakar was never in attendance. The entire story is laughably desperate,” the statement read.
The former Vice President’s team described the report as a diversionary tactic by what it called a “faltering administration,” allegedly aimed at sowing disunity within opposition ranks and undermining the growing momentum behind the newly unveiled African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
“No amount of propaganda, planted stories, or faceless briefings will fracture the resolve of the opposition coalition. We are united, focused, and determined to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of this rudderless government,” the statement continued.
Atiku’s camp further accused the ruling party of panicking over the wide acceptance of the ADC as a viable opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the increasing support for the coalition sends a clear signal that “the Tinubu administration is living on borrowed time.”
The statement concluded by urging Nigerians and the media to disregard the purported report, stressing that it lacks attribution, credibility, and any basis in truth.
