ASUU Declares Nationwide Strike Over Unpaid June Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has annouced a nationwide strike over the non-payment of June 2025 salaries, enforcing its “No Pay, No Work” stance.

The News Chronicle obseverved that branches at the University of Jos and University of Abuja have already joined the action, following a directive from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC).

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, on Monday blamed the federal government for what he called a “deliberate and unacceptable” delay in payments, citing unresolved issues tied to the switch from IPPIS to GIFMIS.

He also slammed the government for failing to release the remaining N10 billion of the agreed N50 billion Earned Academic Allowance, with only N40 billion disbursed so far.
