Arsenal Pays Tribute to Young British-Nigerian Fan Daniel Anjorin Murdered in London

Daniel Anjorin was a 14-year-old British-Nigerian schoolboy who tragically died after being fatally stabbed with a sword in Hainault, London, as he was leaving his home to walk to school on Tuesday.

Four other people (two of which were police officers) were also seriously injured during the attack.

Daniel who was an avid Arsenal fan was described by his family as their “most loved and amazing son.”

Deeply saddened by the news, Arsenal paid tribute to Daniel during their Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday with a minute’s silence, while his photo was shown on the screens all over the stadium. The club also gave a minute’s applause during the 14th minute.

Daniel’s school Bancroft’s, in Woodford Green, said Daniel was a “true scholar” who possessed a “positive nature and gentle character.

“Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with,” the school added.

A candlelit vigil was also held on Sunday morning at the Hainault Underground Station car park, where friends and members of the community paid tribute to Daniel, expressing their support for his family who are heavily grieved. The family described the ordeal of Daniel’s loss as something no family should have to go through.

Their statement read; “We as a family are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Daniel.”

It added: “It is difficult for us at this time to process what has happened to him and that he will never come home.

“Daniel had left the house for school and then he was gone.

“Our children have lost their loving and precious brother and we have lost the most loved and amazing son.

“We would like to send our best wishes to the other victims of this unthinkable incident.

“We would also like to thank the local community for all of their support during this most difficult time.”

Over 7,000 people has donated on the online fundraising page set up by Kwasi Asare, a friend of Daniel’s brother to help Daniel’s family.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo has been charged with Daniel’s murder, along with two counts of attempted nurses, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.

May the soul of Daniel Anjorin rest in peace.
