Apple has published new information explaining how its Safari browser limits advanced tracking methods used by websites, including a technique known as fingerprinting.
In a statement published on its official website, Apple explained that fingerprinting allows companies to track users by collecting technical information from their devices, such as system settings, fonts, and browser configurations, to form a unique profile. Unlike cookies, this method cannot be easily turned off by users.
Apple said Safari works to prevent this practice by limiting the amount of identifiable information shared with websites.
“Safari works to prevent advertisers and websites from using the unique combination of characteristics of your device to create a ‘fingerprint’ to track you,” Apple stated. “To combat fingerprinting, Safari presents a simplified version of the system configuration so more devices look identical to trackers, making it harder to single yours out.”
According to Apple, Safari reduces the information websites receive about a user’s device by displaying general system data rather than detailed specifications. This approach, the company said, is meant to make individual devices harder to distinguish from others.
Apple also said its browser uses built-in protection systems to limit tracking across websites, reduce access to device details, and prevent automatic sharing of personal data without user consent.
The company did not name any competing browsers in its statement and did not issue any direct instruction telling users to avoid specific apps. Apple said the final choice of browser remains with users but emphasized that privacy-focused features are built into Safari by default.
On iPhones, all third-party browsers operate under Apple’s WebKit system, meaning they share core security functions. However, Apple’s Safari enables additional privacy controls automatically.
The company’s statement forms part of its wider privacy policy, which positions user data protection as a central feature of Apple devices and software services.
Apple has not announced any new warnings, restrictions, or system alerts related to browser usage beyond its existing privacy guidance available on its official website.
