According to reports, vehicular movement along the busy Abuja–Keffi Expressway was brought to a complete halt on Wednesday after truck drivers barricaded the highway in protest over the alleged assault and arrest of one of their colleagues by security operatives.
Sources say, the confrontation reportedly involved a VIP convoy, which allegedly attacked the driver for failing to give way.
In response, fellow truck drivers staged an immediate blockade, sealing off all lanes of the expressway.
The shutdown has cut off access to and from the Federal Capital Territory through Mararaba in Nasarawa State, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and causing a major traffic snarl stretching several kilometres.
As of press time, The News Chronicle gathered that the protest was ongoing, with no official statement issued by relevant authorities.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes or delay travel plans until normalcy is restored.
