Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has affirmed that Christians face insecurity in Nigeria, emphasizing that Muslims are also enduring similar challenges.
In an interview with Trust TV on Wednesday, Gumi urged the United States to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty while offering assistance.
“No doubt, Christians are victims of insecurity, and Muslims face the same. The US must honor Nigeria’s sovereignty. While Nigeria welcomes foreign support, it must safeguard its independence,” he stated.
Reflecting on history, Gumi noted that during the Nigerian Civil War, Russia supported the federal government, while the United States backed secessionists.
“It is ironic that Nigeria’s foreign policy seems influenced from outside. We need to prioritize our national interest,” he added.
