Wike Reveals Why He’s Renovating Life Camp Park Instead of Millennium Park

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said his administration will prioritise the remodelling of the Life Camp Recreation Park ahead of the Millennium Park, citing limited time left in office to complete major projects.

Speaking to journalists during a media parley monitored by The News Chronicle, Wike said he preferred to embark on projects that could be completed before the end of the current administration rather than initiate ones that might be abandoned.

According to him, the Life Camp project is achievable within the remaining period of his tenure, unlike the Millennium Park, which would require more time and resources.

“I prefer to do something that I know I can finish and go, and not something that you just have and nobody will give attention to,” the minister said.

Wike, however, acknowledged that the current state of the Millennium Park falls short of expectations for a national capital, describing it as unattractive and largely underutilised.

“You see that it gives the city a different look than what it’s supposed to. It should be a city that’s attractive. Where is this park? The Millennium Park is empty, totally empty. There’s nothing that’s attractive,” he said.

While declining to commit to a renovation of the Millennium Park before the end of his tenure, Wike admitted that the facility deserves significant attention in the future.

Asked whether the park would receive government intervention, he responded, “Maybe not, so that you don’t commit me.”

He reiterated that his focus remains on completing projects that can be delivered before the expiration of his tenure, stressing that he would rather avoid initiating projects that could be left unfinished.

The minister also disclosed plans to improve recreational facilities around Jabi Lake, noting that the area remains a popular destination visited by thousands of residents for leisure and exercise.

Wike said the FCT Administration remains committed to enhancing public infrastructure and recreational facilities that improve the capital city’s aesthetics and quality of life for residents.
