The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that no government can solve every problem facing the country.
Speaking during his monthly media parley on Tuesday August 4, monitored by The News Chronicle, Wike said it was unrealistic to expect any administration to fix all of Nigeria’s challenges within a short period.
“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems.”
The former Rivers State governor, however, maintained that the Tinubu administration was making measurable progress.
“But government is solving problems that will at least help to improve the lives of people.”
Responding to criticisms over projects that have not been formally commissioned, Wike said only major, capital-intensive projects are selected for commissioning ceremonies.
“It’s not possible for us to commission every project. We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects where billions of naira have been spent and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”
He also urged journalists to visit project sites across the Federal Capital Territory to verify the government’s claims.
“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance.”
