Wike Orders Fresh Restrictions on Keke, Okada, Approves Logistics for Enforcement

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the release of logistics support for security agencies to enforce restrictions on the operation of commercial tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and motorcycles (Okada) in parts of Abuja.

Wike disclosed this during a media chat on Tuesday, stating that the FCT Administration had begun identifying areas where commercial tricycles and motorcycles would no longer be allowed to operate.

According to the minister, although enforcing a total ban across the Federal Capital Territory would be impractical, restricting their operations within the Abuja city centre had become necessary.

He said the decision followed the latest FCT Executive Council meeting, during which he directed security agencies to map out locations where the activities of commercial tricycles and motorcycles would be prohibited.

“Just this morning, I signed an approval because we had an Executive Council meeting. I’ve told the security details to map out areas where we do not need the Keke NAPEP and motorcycles,” Wike said.

The minister explained that the restrictions would apply to areas where the operation of commercial tricycles and motorcycles was considered inappropriate.

“But it’ll be difficult to ban them in the entire Abuja. Particularly, it is necessary within the city not to allow Keke NAPEP and Okada,” he added.

To ensure effective enforcement, Wike said he had also approved the release of logistics support for security personnel tasked with implementing the directive.

“I just made approval this morning to release some logistics,” he said.
