VIDEO: They Told Him the Truth — Senator Kalu Reacts to Catholic Bishops’ Meeting With Tinubu

Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has defended President Bola Tinubu over the country’s economic hardship and insecurity, insisting that the challenges are not the President’s fault and accusing politicians of giving him a false picture of the nation’s realities.

Kalu made the remarks in a viral video obtained by The News Chronicle, while reacting to the recent meeting between President Tinubu and members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the meeting, the bishops raised concerns over the country’s economic conditions, rising insecurity, and the political climate.

Following the visit, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, disclosed that President Tinubu disagreed with the bishops’ assessment, maintaining that his administration was making progress.

Commenting on the development, Kalu described the Catholic bishops as the conscience of the nation, saying their counsel was always offered in the country’s best interest.

“The Catholic bishops are the conscience of the country and once they give advice, their advice is not for or against anyone; it is simply for any sitting President to see things the way they should be,” he said.

The former Abia State governor acknowledged that Nigerians were facing genuine economic and security challenges but argued that President Tinubu should not be held solely responsible.

“The Catholic bishops are aware of the situation in the country. There are real difficulties in Nigeria, but they are not President Tinubu’s fault,” Kalu stated.

He commended the meeting between the bishops and the President, describing it as an opportunity for Tinubu to receive an honest assessment of the country’s condition.

“The Catholic bishops’ visit to President Tinubu is a good one. I support it because they are telling him the way it is,” he said.

Kalu further alleged that some politicians often mislead the President by portraying the situation in the country more positively than it actually is.

“It encourages the President to work harder because the Catholic bishops are simply telling him the truth. Even if politicians are telling him that everything is fine everywhere, the bishops cannot do that.

“Even if we politicians can lie to him, the bishops will always tell him the truth about the current reality of the country,” he added.
