Suspected terrorists have abducted about 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto State, while they were travelling to their communities in Oyo State.
The incident reportedly occurred within the past 48 hours along the route to Oyo State. The students were travelling in a chartered bus arranged by their institution when the vehicle was intercepted by the attackers.
A youth leader from Oke-Ogun, Oyo State, who confirmed the incident, said the victims were students of Gamji College of Health Technology and not students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, as was initially reported.
According to the youth leader, the students were travelling from Sokoto to Oke-Ogun, particularly Igboho, when the attackers stopped the bus.
He said the assailants killed the driver before abducting the students and taking them away.
“The driver was killed and all the students were kidnapped. They have reached the Mokwa side,” the youth leader said.
He added that the remains of the driver were buried on Saturday.
Other sources familiar with the incident also confirmed that the number of abducted students could be as high as 18. They said the students were travelling to their respective communities in Oyo State when the attackers intercepted their vehicle.
The latest development has raised fresh concerns over the safety of travellers along the route, while the whereabouts and condition of the abducted students remain a major concern.
