The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted the first batch of 86 Nigerian troops to Guinea-Bissau as part of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and security.
The contingent, comprising 12 officers and 74 soldiers, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a NAF C-130 aircraft. The remaining personnel are expected to be deployed in a subsequent airlift.
Before their departure, the troops were addressed at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Force Operations Base in Abuja, where they were reminded to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity while serving as representatives of Nigeria on the international mission.
The deployment underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic airlift capability and Nigeria’s continued leadership role in ECOWAS peacekeeping efforts.
It also reflects the country’s commitment to promoting stability, strengthening regional cooperation, and supporting lasting peace across West Africa.
