The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast predominantly sunny weather conditions across much of the country on Monday, February 2, 2026, with isolated thunderstorms expected in parts of the South and North Central regions.
According to the daily weather outlook issued on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the Northern States will experience sunny atmospheric conditions throughout the day.
NiMet noted that clear skies are anticipated in the morning, with sunny conditions persisting into the afternoon and evening hours across the region.
In the Central States, NiMet predicted a mix of cloud cover and hazy conditions. The morning hours are expected to be characterised by few patches of clouds with haze across the North Central zone.
As the day progresses, cloudy skies and hazy atmosphere are likely to dominate, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of southern Kwara State during the afternoon and evening period.
For the Southern States, the agency forecast sunny skies with a few cloud patches in the morning.
However, weather conditions are expected to become more active later in the day. Thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are anticipated over parts of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States during the afternoon and evening. Other areas in the South are expected to experience sunny conditions with few patches of clouds.
NiMet has advised residents, particularly in areas expected to experience thunderstorms, to remain alert, as such weather events may be accompanied by gusty winds.
Motorists were also cautioned to exercise care during rainfall episodes, especially in urban centres where reduced visibility and waterlogged roads may pose challenges.
Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport specific weather information from NiMet to support safe and effective operational planning.
The agency reiterated its commitment to providing timely and accurate weather information to safeguard lives, property and economic activities across the country.
