As the Christmas season approaches, the Borno State Government has once again provided free transportation for Christian faithful travelling across the country to celebrate the yuletide with their families.
The annual initiative, implemented through the Ohaneze APC Support Group, was officially flagged off with beneficiaries set to enjoy free travel to various destinations nationwide.
Speaking on Sunday at the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman and Coordinator of the group, Chief Ugochukwu E. Egwudike JP (Go Easy), said the programme was introduced in 2020 following the directive of the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
Chief Egwudike explained that the initiative was designed to ease the burden on Christian travellers during festive periods by providing free transportation and stipends, enabling them to reunite with their loved ones. He noted that the current exercise is the sixth edition of the programme.
According to him, the four-day exercise will see about 750 commuters transported free of charge to different parts of the country, while an additional 300 widows and other less privileged persons will benefit from palliative support as part of the yuletide intervention.
He commended the Zulum-led administration for its inclusive leadership and consistent commitment to promoting unity, peace, and social cohesion in the state, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
He also urged beneficiaries and residents to continue praying for sustained peace, stability, and development in Borno State and Nigeria.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, describing the gesture as timely, compassionate, and a clear demonstration of concern for the welfare of all citizens.
They offered prayers for his good health, continued success, and greater achievements in service to humanity.
