A tense situation unfolded at Afor Nnobi market in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State after a group of youths reportedly surrounded and escorted a truck said to be carrying suspected Fulani herders out of the community.
Viral videos circulating on social media showed the truck being driven out under the watch of the youths, with some individuals describing the action as a preventive measure against potential security threats. The incident comes amid ongoing concerns in parts of the Southeast over attacks linked to armed herders.
However, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the identities or intentions of the occupants of the truck. As of the time of reporting, no arrests have been made, and there is no verified evidence indicating that those involved posed any immediate threat.
The development has sparked debate over issues of ethnic profiling, mob action, and the rule of law. Critics have warned that such actions risk deepening divisions and undermining due process.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has previously stated that the vast majority of criminal suspects arrested in the state are of local origin, urging residents to avoid stereotyping and to rely on lawful security channels.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident
