Speaking on Saturday at a one-day APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, ahead of the party’s congresses slated to commence on April 28, Lawal explained that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by the need to work closely with former governors and the Federal Government to restore peace and stability.
The governor stressed the importance of unity among key political actors, noting that a divided front would undermine efforts to tackle insecurity effectively.
He described the gathering as the first major convergence of APC stakeholders since his defection to the party in March.
Lawal arrived at the meeting alongside four former governors of the state—Sen. Ahmad Sani, Alhaji Mahmuda Shinkafi, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle—demonstrating a renewed sense of solidarity within the party’s ranks.
Commending President Bola Tinubu, the governor praised him for “navigating the complex challenges in the country” and acknowledged the Federal Government’s support to Zamfara through the provision of security infrastructure, personnel, and logistics.
He noted that the meeting would strengthen internal cohesion within the party and position it strategically ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, Lawal pledged continued collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to end insecurity and secure lasting peace across the state.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts by his government to improve livelihoods and reduce poverty, assuring party members of transparency, fairness, and adherence to due process.
In their separate remarks, the former governors expressed unwavering support for the president, pledging loyalty to his administration and backing his 2027 re-election ambition.
