Lawyer raises Alarm over Dangers of including Pro-Sex, Sexual Perversion Books in Schools’ Syllabus

—

A legal practitioner, Barr Chinwe Ejike has said the approval by the Federal Ministry of Education, for books encouraging sexual perversion and other forms of immorality in the syllabus of secondary and primary schools, spells great danger for the development of the Nigerian child.

He is urging the Ministry to immediately expunge such books from the children’s curriculum as they will not only pollute them but also foster corruption in the country.

Ejike, who shared her views with a team of journalists on issues of moral decadence, sex education, and roles of parents in the family, cited a literature book for JSS students titled: Stigma by Sampson O. Shobayo being used in one of the Federal Government Secondary Schools in Owerri, Imo State.

According to her, in as much as the book talked against the stigmatization of people living with HIV, it encourages JSS girl students to have boyfriends and sex.

She said, “Secondary and primary school teachers should shun teaching the children what will pollute their mind sexually or what will corrupt them.

“If such immorality is taught to our JSS students, I wonder what our society will be in the next ten years and the youths and adults will breed evil.

“I’ve contacted the school and confirmed that the book is in their syllabus for Literature-in-English. The book encourages sexual relationships with HIV patients through kissing.

“Apart from the school, there are other books some schools use that, corrupt children. Such books include Basic Science & technology for Junior Secondary Schools 1, 2, and 3 by WK Hamzat, S. Bakare, pages 29 – 47 – 48 – 52 pages 67 – 73 and 86 which promote abortion, LGTB, masturbation, and sex with condoms to JSS students.”

The legal practitioner further enjoined parents to wake up to their responsibilities, describing them as primary educators of their children.

Parents cannot eschew this responsibility under the excuse that they are working hard to earn a living. They should read the textbooks recommended to their children in school before using them so that if it is corruptive, they will raise an alarm and stop them from using it.

“Family remains the natural context children imbibe those cherished values which form the superstructures for building our natural ethics. Family institution unarguably, is the fundamental unit of society.

“Most vices in Nigeria today are caused by failed parenting and failed parenting engenders armed robbery, banditry, immorality, and kidnapping.

“Parents should rediscover themselves and reinvigorate their respective families to enable them to parent their children to be responsible citizens because our civilization is imperiled when families are imperiled,” she added.
