An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Abayomi Semako Hunye, has claimed that the party does not yet have a definite candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
In an Interview with ARISE NEWS monitored by The News Chronicle, Hunye said this while reacting to the emergence of a candidate he described as having been imposed on the party, arguing that the APC must follow the procedures stipulated by law in selecting its governorship candidate.
According to him, the law provides for either a consensus arrangement or an open ballot to determine the party’s candidate.
He said under the consensus option, only aspirants who purchased nomination forms could participate in the process, adding that such aspirants must reach a written agreement before a consensus candidate could emerge.
“The people of Ogun State should be aware that, as far as the court is concerned, the APC does not have a definite governorship candidate yet,” Hunye said.
“They imposed a candidate on us, but there are procedures prescribed by law. The law provides for a consensus arrangement and an open ballot.
“Under the consensus arrangement, only those who purchased the nomination form become aspirants, and they must agree in writing before the process can be concluded.”

Hunye alleged that the process leading to the emergence of the candidate did not involve all the aspirants.
The governorship aspirant urged residents of the state to be aware of the development, insisting that the party’s candidate had not been conclusively determined through the process he described as being prescribed by law.
He also dismissed concerns that the disagreement could threaten the APC’s chances in the 2027 election, saying the issue was primarily about ensuring that due process was followed in selecting the party’s candidate.
