Zulum launches food aid for 100,000 families in MMC and Jere amidst hardship

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum recently began a program to give food to families who need it in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area.

The goal is to help people who are struggling because food prices keep going up. Governor Zulum started the distribution at the Maiduguri Sports Centre by giving out bags of rice and maize to 100,000 households.

After starting the distribution, Governor Zulum talked to reporters. He said it’s important to keep helping people who are having a hard time.

He promised to keep focusing on helping people, especially those who suffer because of the Boko Haram attacks.

Governor Zulum explained that the plan is to give food to even more families, up to 200,000, during Ramadan.

“We have flagged off the distribution of the palliative for 100,000 today; my intention is not to stop at 100,000 households; we believe before the end of Ramadan, we shall reach up to 200,000 across the state.

They will include more areas, like seven local government areas in southern Borno. He said places affected by violence might have trouble growing food, so the government has been giving out food since 2011.

Zulum said “We have started distributing food palliative care since 2011 and are doing our best. I call on our people to be patient because the government handles the crisis. What we are doing is enormous, but as a responsive and responsible government, we shall continue to do our best to cushion the effects of the hardship,”

Governor Zulum wants to make sure people have enough to eat. He also wants to help them start farming if they don’t have another way to make money.

The government will give support to farmers, like free buses, farming tools, and money. They’re also working with the federal government to improve farming.

But Governor Zulum also had a warning. He said some people might try to cause trouble or make the food distribution political.

He said the government won’t tolerate that and will deal with anyone who tries to disrupt the peace.
