WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could change how we reply to messages, according to recent reports.
The feature is known as floating chat bubbles and is designed to allow you respond to messages without opening the full application. It has been identified in Android beta builds and is still under development.
In a report published and reviewed by the The News Chronicle on Friday, April 24, 2026, WABetaInfo stated that the feature will display incoming messages as small floating icons on the screen. These bubbles will show the profile picture of the sender along with a WhatsApp indicator.
When tapped, the bubble opens a compact chat window, enabling you to read and reply to messages while continuing to use other apps. This is intended to support multitasking, particularly during activities such as watching videos or browsing.
The feature is similar to the chat head system used by Facebook Messenger, another platform owned by Meta Platforms.

WABetaInfo noted that “the feature is tied to Android’s notification bubble system,” adding that it performs best on devices running Android 11 and above, where system-level support is more stable. Its compatibility may vary depending on device settings and software versions.
Alongside this, WhatsApp is also testing changes to its interface. The company is considering replacing the text-based app name at the top of the screen with its official logo. This adjustment is expected to create space for new tools, including quicker access to status updates.
The features are currently limited to testing environments and have not been released to the general public. According to the reports, they are expected to roll out first to beta users before a global release.
WhatsApp has not announced a confirmed timeline for public availability. However, based on its usual testing process, it could follow in the coming months if development proceeds without major issues.
