Yobe Fortifies Security, Lets Muslims Break Night Silence for Ramadan

The Yobe State Government is tightening the screws on security while loosening the reins on the midnight curfew to ensure Muslims can observe Ramadan without a hitch.

Retired Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdussalam, Security Adviser to Gov. Mai Mala Buni, revealed this after Wednesday’s monthly security huddle in Damaturu.

Abdussalam said the State Security Council had scanned the horizon for threats and decided to beef up preventive measures across the state throughout the fasting month.

“The council assessed emerging threats and adopted strategies to forestall criminal activities, especially during late-night prayers,” he noted.

Security forces have cranked up patrols, intelligence gathering, and surveillance in major towns, keeping a hawk’s eye on identified flashpoints. Troops have been stationed at strategic points to ward off burglary and other crimes while families attend congregational prayers.

“The security architecture has been strengthened to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the Ramadan period,” Abdussalam said. “Clerics and Islamic scholars have been sensitised to guide worshippers on peaceful conduct and community vigilance. The midnight curfew is being relaxed to allow residents to attend Tafsir and other late-night religious activities until the early hours.”

He urged residents to play ball with security agencies and respect temporary movement restrictions in some areas. Addressing concerns over limited access around Family Support Roundabout to Ali Marami Housing Estate in Damaturu, he called for patience, saying the measure was purely precautionary and would be reviewed as the situation improves.

Abdussalam reassured citizens that the government remained committed to keeping the peace and ensuring a smooth, worry-free Ramadan celebration throughout Yobe State.
