The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, has ordered the deployment of enhanced patrol teams to places of worship and other public spaces across the state as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful Ramadan and Lenten season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Lokoja by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, the CP assured residents that comprehensive security measures had been activated statewide.
According to the statement, the Command has intensified visibility patrols, carried out strategic deployments to mosques, churches and other public locations, and launched intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing crime and responding swiftly to security concerns.
Kankarofi called on residents to support the Police and other security agencies in maintaining peace, security and public order throughout the fasting period.
Ramadan, in Islam, is a sacred month dedicated to fasting, increased prayers and deep spiritual reflection. It is observed as one of the five pillars of Islam and underscores total submission to God.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that they would be able to go about their lawful activities without fear.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, particularly during early morning and late evening hours, and to promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 0703 832 9084 and 0815 219 9999.
Kankarofi also cautioned against reckless driving, unlawful gatherings and any acts capable of disrupting public peace and order.
He appealed to parents, guardians, religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups and other community stakeholders to use the period to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.
Emphasising that security is a shared responsibility, the CP encouraged sustained cooperation through timely and credible information sharing.
He further reassured the people of Kogi State that under his leadership, the Command would continue to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights while strengthening strategies to address emerging security challenges.
The Police Command appreciated the continued support of the state government and residents, urging all citizens to remain law-abiding to ensure a peaceful and secure Ramadan for everyone.
