The spokesperson for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, said his principal is aware that his political actions could trigger retaliation from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, if either of them wins the 2027 presidential election.
Olayinka made the statement on Friday while appearing on Arise Television’s The Morning Show monitored by The News Chronicle.
He said Wike was fully aware that his political relationships with Atiku and Obi had deteriorated significantly and was not expecting either politician to remain friendly with him should they emerge victorious in 2027.
Olayinka said, “So what we are saying is that the man knows that he has injured Atiku too much. He has injured Peter Obi too much, and when you injure people politically, you should expect some payback.
“So he is not deceiving himself into believing that if Atiku becomes president tomorrow, he will now become Atiku’s friend. No, he is not deceiving himself into having that kind of belief.”
His comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party crisis, has previously expressed concerns that Atiku and Obi could target him politically if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
The FCT minister has remained a prominent political figure within the current administration despite his continued association with the PDP.
