The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has dismissed as false and unauthorised a viral message circulating about an alleged Education Support Fund for MSc students.
In a press statement issued by the Commission’s management Obtained by The News Chronicle on Friday, September 4, 2026, NEDC said it is not currently receiving applications for any MSc Education Support Fund.
The viral message, which contains purported eligibility requirements and directs applicants to submit documents at the NEDC office in Polo, Maiduguri, was described by the Commission as completely false.
NEDC urged members of the public to disregard the information and warned them against submitting personal documents to individuals claiming to represent the Commission in connection with the alleged programme.
The Commission specifically cautioned the public against releasing sensitive documents, including National Identification Number (NIN) slips, admission letters, identity cards and certificates of indigene, to unauthorised persons.
NEDC further warned that the circulation of the false information represents an attempt to fraudulently exploit the Commission’s name and identity.
The Commission called on citizens to remain vigilant and verify any information relating to its interventions, programmes and opportunities before taking action.
According to NEDC, members of the public should rely solely on the Commission’s official communication channels and verified announcements for authentic information about its programmes and opportunities.
The Commission also encouraged the public to treat unsolicited application forms, payment requests or demands for personal documents purportedly linked to the alleged MSc fund with caution.
