Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani, has revealed the challenges facing the country’s communication networks. He mentioned that while advanced technology like 5G exists in some places, the supporting infrastructure is not widespread across the nation, affecting service quality.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Tijani highlighted the need to invest around $2 billion to lay fibre optics cables across Nigeria. He emphasized the impact of vandalism on telecom infrastructure, causing disruptions and poor connectivity.
To combat these issues, the minister is advocating for the declaration of telecoms infrastructure as a critical national asset. This step aims to prevent vandalism and ensure better service delivery to schools, hospitals, government offices, and other essential facilities.
Tijani hopes that within the first four years of the administration, significant progress will be made in wiring Nigeria for enhanced communication services.
