A roadside bean cake (akara) vendor has been arrested in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State following allegations that she mixed human feces into the batter used for preparing food sold to members of the public.
According to reports from the area, the incident occurred along Ani Road on the IkomāObudu highway after some customers reportedly became suspicious of the vendorās food preparation practices.
Witnesses claimed that concerns arose when residents demanded to inspect a container the woman was allegedly hiding while preparing the bean mixture. The request reportedly led to a confrontation at the scene.
The situation later escalated as community members insisted on examining the contents of the container. According to local accounts, the inspection allegedly revealed human feces mixed with another substance.
Images and videos purportedly linked to the incident obtained by The News Chronicle on Saturday have since circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage and raising concerns about food safety and hygiene standards among street food vendors.
The development has reignited discussions about the need for stricter monitoring, food safety inspections, and hygiene enforcement in public food markets to protect consumers from potential health risks.
