UEFA Tournament: All English Teams Exit First and Second Tiers

—

All English teams, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and West Ham, participating in the first and second tiers of the UEFA tournaments (Champions League and UEFA Europa League), have been eliminated.

Having lost emphatically 3-0 to Atalanta at Anfield, Liverpool’s elimination was confirmed last night following their slim 1-0 victory in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League in Italy.

Additionally, English counterpart WestHam also bows out of the tournament following a 3-1 aggregate against current Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in both legs.

Before this stage of the tournaments, Newcastle United and Manchester United were eliminated by AC Milan and Bayern Munich during the group stages.of the UEFA champions League.

Despite holding Los Blancos to an aggregate of 4-4 on Tuesday night, defending champions Manchester City were dumped out of the tournament following a penalty shootout at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal had a placid game against Bayern Munich in Germany but were unfortunate after Joshua Kimmich’s lone goal separated both teams on a 3-2 aggregate.

What is next for these English clubs?

As things stand, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal will continue their title tussle and are likely to occupy the first three Champions League spots at the end of the season.

Mathematically, Manchester United can still finish in the top four spot with their only chance being the fourth spot. They would rely on Aston Villa losing all their games in hand while they win theirs to attain this feat.

The Hammers have escaped relegation and are certain to compete in the league next season. Mathematically, they can also finish in the UEFA Conference League spot.
