VeryDarkMan Reveals ₦50 Million Offer Behind Davido Rift

Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, has given his account of why he and Afrobeats star Davido stopped speaking.

In a video posted Sunday, the activist said the break came after he turned down ₦50 million tied to Davido’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“Davido and his crew offered me money,” he said. “When they call me say make I come meet the uncle governor, say I go collect N50 million. Ask wetin I tell them. A lot of people will be happy, you no wetin be N50 million? I bounce am. Ask them.”

VDM said the offer came with an expectation that he would campaign for the governor. He turned it down and believes that decision changed how Davido treated him afterward.

He also gave details of the last conversation he and Davido had, which had nothing to do with the money. It centered on a Ghanaian boy Davido had promised five thousand dollars during an earlier public gesture.

According to VDM, the payment was delayed, and people online accused him of using the story for attention. He said he messaged Davido directly about it. “The last time me and Davido even talk na when that issue of that boy wey he said he go give 5,000 dollars for Ghana,” he said. “I sent to him in his DM, how far, make them pay this boy because people were insulting me.” He said the payment went through soon after.

Reaction to the video was split. One commenter compared VDM’s situation to Portable’s fallout with Olamide, arguing both men turned on people who had supported them. Another pushed back on the ₦50 million figure itself, writing that Davido’s camp likely implied the amount rather than promising it outright. A third accused VDM of exaggerating the story for his own gain.

Davido has not addressed VDM’s claims directly, but he has been visible on social media in recent days over separate matters. On Saturday, July 19, he reacted to comments from music executive Ubi Franklin, who has four children with different women and used a recent podcast episode to warn young men against the same path. Davido wrote on his Instagram story, “For the first time ever, Nigeria agrees with @ubifranklinofficial.”

That same weekend, a video of Davido’s father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, dancing at a cultural event made rounds on social media. The clip showed him in a striped traditional outfit, moving confidently across a stage as a live band played. Davido commented on the post himself: “4+4 don’t play with my DADDY!!!”

On Monday, July 20, hours after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final in New Jersey, Davido posted a message congratulating Lamine Yamal’s mother, Sheila Ebana.

For now, VDM’s account stands as the only version of the story, and Davido has said nothing in reply.
