Police Detain Four Officers for Allegedly Extorting ICPC Chairman of ₦53,000

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained four police officers accused of extorting ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu.

Addressing journalists on Monday, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said the officers abandoned their assigned duty posts and mounted an illegal checkpoint around the Banex area in Wuse, where they allegedly intercepted the ICPC boss.

According to Sanusi, the officers forced Aliyu to withdraw ₦53,000, including Point of Sale (PoS) transaction charges, before sharing the money among themselves.

Describing the officers as “thieves,” the police commissioner vowed they would face the full weight of disciplinary measures, including possible dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.

Sanusi also urged residents to resist unlawful phone searches by police officers and report any incidents through the command’s emergency lines.
