President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for a major security breakthrough in Kogi State that resulted in the elimination of notorious bandit leader, Ibrahim Bastuji.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga and made available to The News Chronicle.
The President described the operation as a significant setback for criminal networks that have terrorised communities across Kogi and neighbouring states, noting that Bastuji’s reign of violence, kidnappings and deadly attacks had inflicted immense suffering on residents.
According to Tinubu, the successful operation will help restore public confidence and bring much-needed relief to affected communities.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals. Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place. This success reflects the renewed determination of our security forces to secure every inch of our land,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended security operatives for the successful rescue of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar, widow of former Chief of Defence Information, General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), describing the mission as a testament to the professionalism, courage and resolve of the nation’s security forces.
“The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians. I commend the intelligence coordination and bravery of the officers and men who executed the rescue operation. We owe a debt of gratitude to our troops who risk their lives daily to keep us safe,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, the President pledged continued support for the Armed Forces through enhanced funding, training and operational resources to decisively confront banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He also urged Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely intelligence and supporting efforts to safeguard lives and communities.
