Anambra Police Begin Enforcement of IGP’s Directive on Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles, Concealed Number Plates

Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to strengthen public safety and crime prevention with the commencement of enforcement of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive against the use of unregistered vehicles and the concealment of vehicle registration numbers.

The Command said the move became necessary following the increasing use of unregistered vehicles and the deliberate obstruction, alteration, and concealment of number plates, practices that make vehicle identification difficult and undermine security operations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu urged vehicle owners and motorists across the state to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that registration number plates are clearly displayed and visible at all times.

According to the Command, acts such as covering, bending, defacing, removing, altering, or obstructing number plates, as well as the use of unauthorised registration numbers, are violations of the law and will attract appropriate sanctions.

The Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Orutugu, explained that the enforcement exercise is designed to enhance security, improve intelligence gathering, and facilitate the prompt identification and tracking of vehicles used in criminal activities.

He called on motorists and vehicle owners to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with all vehicle registration requirements and refraining from any action capable of concealing the identity of their vehicles.

The Commissioner further assured residents that officers deployed for the operation have been directed to conduct themselves professionally, courteously, and strictly within the confines of the law.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining a secure environment for all residents and visitors in the state.
