The Tragic Kidnapping of Nabeeha and Her Sisters in Abuja

—

Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, along with her five sisters and their father, Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar, were abducted by kidnappers in their residence on Tuesday night in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Attempts to rescue the abductees failed as Alhaji Al-Kadriyar’s brother, Alhaji Abdulfatai was gunned down by the kidnappers, and two of the three injured policemen involved in the rescue reportedly died.

On Friday, Nabeeha, a 400-level student of biological science at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was unfortunately killed by the kidnappers.

The kidnappers became angered when the family informed them that they had raised only around N30 million of the N60 million ransom. In response, the kidnappers showed the family Nabeeha’s corpse and threatened to kill the remaining five siblings if the increased ransom of N100 million was not paid by the next deadline.

Although their father was eventually freed, the other sisters including Najeebah a 500-level, Quantity Surveying student, and Nadheerah a 300-level, Zoology student, are still being held captive.

There have been efforts by the family and others to raise the ransom, with former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, stating that one of his friends volunteered to contribute N50 million to the ransom.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), lamented Nabeeha’s killing and emphasized the growing insecurity in the nation. He called on the government and security agencies to put more effort into ensuring the release of the remaining family members in captivity.

Nabeeha was laid to rest according to Islamic rites on Saturday, and condolences were expressed for the bereaved family.

The increasing cases of kidnapping across the country, particularly in Abuja both on the roads and in people’s residences, have caused an uproar among Nigerians, leading to calls for military intervention to address the rising insecurity.
