No Independence, No Democracy in Borno, Activist Tells Police Commissioner

A Borno-based activist has accused the state Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, of violating citizens’ rights by allegedly arresting individuals for expressing their opinions.
In a strongly worded statement, the activist alleged that some people had been subjected to hardship, alongside their families, over offences they did not commit.
The activist also accused the police authorities of allegedly acting against individuals in a bid to gain public approval, while warning that positions of power, wealth and authority are temporary.
According to the statement Obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday, the activist had written two letters to the Borno State Governor in August 2025, as well as another letter to the Commissioner of Police in June 2025, raising concerns over alleged violations of citizens’ rights and arrests carried out without sufficient legal justification.
The activist said the Commissioner of Police had been warned earlier about the need to respect human rights and ensure that law enforcement operations complied with due process.
Expressing concern over what was described as a worsening situation, the activist declared:
 “No Independence in Borno. No Democracy in Borno.”
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the police authorities have not, in the statement provided, responded to the accusations.
