Super Falcon’s Desire Oparanozie announces her retirement from professional football

—

The 29 year old was part of the Super Falcons squad that featured in the just concluded FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Until her retirement she played for Chinese outfit, Wuhan Jianghan University. After leaving Nigeria where she played for Bayelsa and Delta Queens, Desire played most of her career with Guingamp FC in the French league, she made 106 caps and scored 45 goals.

Desire made her national debut in 2010 and has since then made 35 appearances scoring 22 goals.

She missed one of the Falcons penalties during the knock round against Three Lioness of England – which made them exit the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

In her Statement: “To my fans, family, and friends, thank you for the show of love and support over the years. It’s time to take a bow, as I believe there’s no better time than now. I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional football for both club and country.”

“To every team and coach I have played for, to every mate I’ve played alongside, and to every opponent I have played against, thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Thank you football, thank you Nigeria.”
