Some People Should Never Have Been Appointed — Jega Faults Senate Over Questionable Ambassadorial Picks

Former Daily Trust Editor, Malam Mahmud Jega, has criticised the appointment of some Nigerian ambassadors, questioning the integrity and suitability of certain nominees.

Speaking on the podcast Conversations with Prof. Jideofor Adibe, the veteran journalist also took aim at the Senate, accusing it of routinely rushing the passage of bills without adequate scrutiny, stakeholder engagement or public hearings.

Jega argued that a diligent and independent legislature should serve as a strong check on the executive, particularly in the confirmation of key appointments.

According to him, a more assertive Senate would have blocked some of the President’s nominees.
“If the Senate were up and doing, they would have stopped the president from appointing some people,” he said.
