Shelve Your Ambition, Invest Campaign Funds in Anambra Security Trust Fund, Activist Tells Guber Aspirants

Activist Obi addressing journalists in Awka
Politicians across various political parties jostling for the Anambra Governorship seat come November 2025 have been advised to jettison such ambition and support incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The Coordinator of the Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, made the call on Tuesday during a press briefing in Awka. He urged the governorship aspirants to invest the funds they had earmarked for their campaigns in the Anambra State Security Trust Fund.
With the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having announced November this year for the State Gubernatorial election, politicians from various political parties are already spending huge sums of money in a bid to secure party tickets.
But Obi believes that Governor Soludo was doing very well, and it would be in the best interest of the state if Soludo was allowed to complete another eight-year term.
According to Obi, there is no need to waste money on the campaign, as the governor was doing well.
We have seen elections where people step down for others.
“I have been observing things here since the 36 years I have been in Awka. The town has been a glorified local government, but today, we now have many good things.
“Okpoko was a slum with no basic amenities but today, the place is alive with basic amenities.
“In education, health, infrastructure, governance cost, ease of doing business, the governor has done well. It is on that premise that I am appealing to any aspirant still nursing governorship ambition this year, to shelve such ambition,” he said.
Speaking on a rift between him and a Catholic Cleric, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obinma, who he chided for defamatory comments against Governor Soludo over the insecurity in the state, Obi said he maintains his position that the priest should apologize to the governor.
He insisted that the priest branding the governor a reprobate, and a wicked man, as well as saying that he is always happy when people are killed, was beyond decency, hence his decision to reprimand him.
Obi described the backlash he received from some sections of society for reprimanding the priest as misplaced, noting that he was not against the priest’s criticism but only against the uncut words he used against the governor.
“I started activism during the Peter Obi election, with the movement for the conduct of local government election, not because I wanted to contest the election, but because I wanted to support the deepening of democracy at the grassroots.
“People who know me know that I have been all about the people’s collective good. So, those who are calling me armchair critic, hypocrite and all sorts of names don’t know me.
“I have paid my dues in this business of activism.
“I am not against Fr Ebube Muonso; he is free to share his frustration and concerns over the insecurity in the state. But, he must do it within the boundaries of decency.
“Saying that the governor is a reprobate, that the governor is wicked and that the governor is happy when people are killed, is totally wrong. To me, it is an insult to every Anambra person.
“So I maintain my stance that the cleric should apologize to the governor.
“I hear that he has placed a curse on those criticizing him that they will soon die. I am not afraid of such curse because it cannot work on me.
“Just the same way I apologize to him for saying that I was going to invade his prayer ground out of anger; in the same vein, I think he should apologize to the governor for his misgivings,” Obi insisted.
On security in the state, Obi said, “The new security initiative launched by the governor has shocked a lot of people, including myself.
“Security is a complex and complicated situation in Awka. Here, it involves disputes over land, business gone wrong, and cultism, among others.
“That is why everyone must join hands to secure the state and not leave it to the governor alone.”
Obi denied allegations that the government funds him, saying he is only passionate about getting things to work right.
He maintained that he was supporting Soludo because he had seen that he was doing well, adding that he would not hesitate to criticize the government when it was not doing well.
