Nigerian content creator Shank Comics has encouraged gamers interested in live streaming to begin creating content without worrying about matching the popularity of established streamers.
Speaking in a message shared online on Thursday night, March 4, 2026, the comedian and streamer advised aspiring creators to focus on enjoying the process rather than chasing views or comparing themselves with more visible figures in the industry.
“Shoutout to gamers. You don’t have to be like me, Enzo, or Peller to start streaming. If you enjoy playing games, just jump on Twitch. Don’t worry about the views, just have fun. Your own money and opportunities will find you,” he said.
The creator also spoke about the importance of mental well-being in online content creation.
“Protect your mental health. Do what you love. I’m sorry I was away. Shoutout to everybody who has been congratulating me for the award. Anybody who is gaming right now doesn’t have to be like me, Enzo, or Peller before you can stream,” he added.
The remarks came shortly after Shank Comics received the Best Streamer of the Year award at the SiGMA Africa Awards held on March 3, 2026, in Cape Town, South Africa. The award recognises creators who demonstrate strong audience engagement, consistent live-streaming activity, and growing influence in digital entertainment.
According to the organisers, the category highlights individuals who contribute to the development of Africa’s expanding online streaming ecosystem.
Social media users responded to the creator’s message, with many focusing on his comments about personal well-being and creative independence.
A user identified as Senator Idris Haruna described the statement as encouraging. “Taking care of your mental health and doing what you love should always come first. Success isn’t about copying others — it’s about finding your own path,” he wrote.
Another user, GOZIE VIBE, said the advice addressed a common problem among creators. “Comparison kills creativity. Everyone’s path is different,” the comment read.
A third user, writing under the name Still Showing Up, added that creators should prioritise enjoyment over competition. “Protecting your mental health and doing what you genuinely enjoy matters more than chasing someone else’s path,” the user wrote.
Shank Comics, whose real name is Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, first gained public attention through short comedy skits portraying everyday Nigerian experiences before expanding into longer YouTube videos and live streaming.
His involvement in streaming grew in 2025 after he participated in a streaming programme organised by the American creator Kai Cenat, during which he won $10,000. The experience introduced him more fully to live streaming as part of his broader digital career.
Since then, he has hosted regular streams and collaborated with international creators, including IShowSpeed and Kai Cenat, both of whom have previously visited Nigeria.
The SiGMA Africa Awards form part of a wider summit focused on gaming, technology and digital entrepreneurship across the continent.
