Scammers Plant Online Betting Ads on Indian Government Websites

Indian government websites have been infiltrated by scammers, who planted online betting ads.

The ads redirected unsuspecting visitors to betting platforms.
This was uncovered around four dozen government website links associated with Indian states, including those of state police and property tax departments, leading to these platforms.
The scam, indexed by search engines like Google, offered betting on cricket tournaments such as the Indian Premier League.
The method of ad placement and duration of activity remain unclear.
TechCrunch promptly alerted India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which acknowledged and looked into the matte.
It remains uncertain whether the loophole granting access to state government websites has been rectified.
