Davido Stakes $1 Million on His Hit Streak

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has a packed few days ahead of him.

The singer is at the center of a sold-out show in London, his uncle’s political battle in Osun State, and a money challenge to fellow artistes.

During a livestream with streamer Davrel, Davido declared himself Nigeria’s top hitmaker and offered $1 million to any artiste willing to compete against his catalog song for song. “I will put $1 million cash on the table. Nobody has more hits than me,” he said.

DAVIDO AND HIS UNCLE

Davido’s discography spans more than a decade and includes a run of chart-topping releases. As of this report, none of his peers, among them Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide and Tekno, had accepted the challenge. A similar dare was made by Burna Boy in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. Only one artiste, former Mavin Records signee Reekado Banks, responded at the time, and Burna Boy reportedly dismissed him as not “a worthy challenger.”

Davido will headline the “Davido & Friends” concert at the Crystal Palace Bowl in London on Friday, 14 August 2026. The show is part of the Palace Bowl Presents summer festival series and marks his first festival appearance in the United Kingdom, as well as his only outdoor London show this summer.

The lineup includes Omah Lay, Black Sherif, Gabzy, T x C, Jazzwrld & Thukuthela, Ecool, Morravey and Boi Chase. Doors open at 3 p.m., with the concert scheduled to run until 10:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Davido shared promotional artwork on his Instagram Story showing a “SOLD OUT” banner, along with a message expressing excitement about the performance.

Socialite Pascal Okechukwu, known as Cubana Chiefpriest, publicly endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election. The endorsement drew attention because Chiefpriest has long been associated with the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu through the City Boy Movement. Adeleke is running for re-election under the Accord Party against APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

In a post shared on Wednesday, Chiefpriest wrote: “Adeleke no be push over oh, Osun vote accordingly for @aadeleke_01. Don’t let anyone tamper with your happiness… Just vote & protect your vote to re-elect your superstar governor @aadeleke_01 so he can perfect all that he started.”

Reactions from followers were largely favorable. User @only1trentino wrote: “RESPECT,” while @jemi_bnx said: “CP I gat love for you for real. Irrespective of party difference, you still stood with the Adelekes.” Other commenters noted the irony of a known APC supporter campaigning against his own party’s candidate.

On 10 August 2026, X user Senior Pst Okezie James Atañi criticized Davido for persuading Osun residents to reject the APC.

He described the singer’s message as “emotional blackmail” and pointed to the Adeleke family’s political influence in the state.  The Osun governorship race has entered its final days.
