Terrorist Ranks Crumble as Surrenders Soar 213% Under Military Pressure

Sustained military operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have triggered a sharp rise in the surrender of terrorist fighters and associates across the North-East Theatre of Operations, with the number of surrenders increasing by 213 per cent over the past week.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle on Wednesday, the Theatre Command said the development followed coordinated ground operations, targeted engagements against terrorist positions and sustained disruption of their logistics and supply networks.

The operations are aimed at degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and restricting their freedom of movement across the theatre.

According to the command, the surge in surrenders reflects a growing number of terrorist fighters and associates abandoning violent activities and submitting to established surrender procedures.

The trend was further reinforced on Wednesday when two high-profile terrorist members surrendered to troops, bringing with them arms, ammunition and other military equipment.

The recovery of the weapons and ammunition, the military said, further indicates that sustained operational pressure is weakening the cohesion, morale and ability of terrorist elements to sustain prolonged operations.

In a related development, several other terrorist members surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7, 2026, at New Abaram, following sustained military pressure and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.

The surrendered individuals were screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered from them before they were handed over for further action in line with established procedures.

The Theatre Command said the increasing frequency of surrenders demonstrates the cumulative impact of its multi-dimensional military strategy, combining offensive ground operations, precision engagements and systematic disruption of terrorist logistics and supply routes.

By denying terrorists the ability to manoeuvre freely, regroup and replenish their resources, troops are increasingly limiting their operational options and undermining their capacity to sustain attacks.

The command said the development goes beyond isolated individual decisions, describing it as evidence of the gradual erosion of terrorist capability, cohesion and willingness to continue the fight.

“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining legitimate military pressure against terrorist elements while providing appropriate channels for those who elect to surrender,” the statement said.

It added that the objective remains to further degrade terrorist capabilities, restore security and create the conditions for lasting peace and stability across the North-East.

The Theatre Command urged members of the public to continue supporting military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

It also called on terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and take advantage of established surrender channels.
