We Are Dying In Silence – Public Outcry Over Alleged Negligence At FMC Keffi

Concerned citizens have raised alarm over alleged cases of negligence and unprofessional conduct at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Keffi, calling on the Federal Ministry of Health to intervene.
In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Zakariyya Zamola Keffi described the hospital as a “dead zone and a house of tears,” alleging that patients are dying under questionable circumstances.
The post cited the recent death of 20-year-old Abdulrahman Abdullahi, a final-year Computer Science student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who was admitted into the Orthopaedic Surgical Unit and did not survive.
“A young man full of dreams for the future, who went into the Orthopaedic Surgical Unit and never came out alive. His death is not just painful, it is ironic and heartbreaking. How do you explain this to his parents, his lecturers, and his colleagues?” the post read.

“If a youth like Abdulrahman can die like that, who is safe?” Zakariyya asked, adding that “Mothers enter the Labour Room and lose their lives. Patients enter the Surgical Room and never return. Families are left in anguish with no explanation and no accountability.”
He is demanding the installation of CCTV cameras in all Surgical and Labour Rooms at FMC Keffi “for transparency and accountability,” noting that it is already done in other Federal Tertiary Hospitals across the country.
“We are therefore demanding… Relevant authorities must act fast before it becomes completely out of hand. Act now to restore public confidence. Act now to stop these avoidable deaths. We are tired of burying our loved ones in silence,” he stated.
The post also drew comments from other residents sharing similar experiences.
One commenter, Jaafar Dan Mainoma, alleged a medication error involving his mother: “A doctor at FMC Keffi mistakenly gave us another patient’s prescription sheet. We took it to the pharmacy, the prescribed drugs were dispensed, and my mother had already started taking the medication before I discovered that the prescription was not hers. When we reported the mistake, those involved initially denied what had happened. Thankfully, I had evidence that proved our claim. May FMC KEFFI not happen to you.”
As of press time, the management of FMC Keffi had not issued an official response to the allegations.
Citizens are now calling on the Federal Ministry of Health and the Medical to investigate the claims and take urgent steps to restore confidence in the facility.
