Prostitutes in trouble as group, Delta government move to chase them from Asaba

The management of a popular lounge in Asaba, Don and Masters, have expressed their readiness to partner with the state government and other relevant agencies to tackle social vices in the capital city, including prostitution.

This is coming after concerns raised on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly and moves by the legislators to rid the capital city of prostitution and other social vices.

Addressing journalists on the development, the manager of Don and Masters, Joshua Ekelebo known as Slimjor, spoke on some of the challenges experienced by the establishment, just as he pledged to collaborate with the state government to nip the problem in the bud.

His words, ‘’Our primary purpose is to entertain guests and give them value for their money as it concerns entertainment and hospitality. However, we are not in support of the menace that happens along the DBS axis at night.

‘’With different security agencies, we have reached out to Oshimili South Local Government Council Committee on Environment. We asked them to engage us on whichever way we can partner with them to realize the kind of sanity that the state government envisions,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Committee on Environment, Hon Kelvin Nwabueze, commended the state legislature for the move to address the seeming rising vices in the state capital.

‘’On several occasions, the management of Don and Masters have come to meet us to express their intentions to partner with the government to ensure that the place is clean and serene. I must commend their readiness and we have been putting heads together to come up with a solution.

He said that the local government, through his committee, was being tactical in addressing the observed challenges, adding ‘’for now, our priority is to ensure that most of those persons are not messing the streets because it is an eyesore in the state capital based on what we are known for’’

‘’This is a sensitive issue that needs the collaboration of every stakeholder. Don and Masters have spoken with us as well as several agencies. We are also collaborating with the relevant agencies to address the challenge.

On his advice to those who indulge in prostitution, he said ‘’disease and infection is real. When you wreak your life, you won’t have a future. Life is all about patience and consistency. Focus on a legitimate endeavor no matter how small it is; start from somewhere and grow. Say no to prostitution, say no to drugs’’

Hon Nwabueze, a councilor in Oshimili South, also expressed concerns about the growing trend of drug abuse among the youths, adding that intense efforts were being made with strong collaboration between the Local Government and security agencies.
