In a deeply personal video message shared on September 9, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment.
The video, released via the official social media accounts of the Prince and Princess of Wales, was filmed in Norfolk last month and features Catherine with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Reflecting on her health journey, Catherine described the last nine months as “incredibly tough” for her and her family. “Life as you know it can change in an instant, and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she said. The video captured moments of the family walking along a beach and enjoying the countryside, giving a rare glimpse into the private life of the royals.
Catherine first revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 after undergoing abdominal surgery earlier in the year. In a video statement at the time, she called the diagnosis a “huge shock” and shared that she would be undergoing a course of “preventative chemotherapy.” Since then, the princess has largely stepped back from public duties to focus on her treatment and recovery.
In her latest update, she spoke candidly about the emotional toll of her diagnosis, calling the experience of cancer “complex, scary, and unpredictable.”
“With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything,” she added.
Despite the challenges, Catherine expressed gratitude for the love and support she and her family have received. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance,” she shared. She also extended her solidarity to others battling cancer, offering words of encouragement: “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey, I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
Catherine revealed: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment.” However, she acknowledged that the journey to full recovery is far from over, adding, “My path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
Throughout her recovery, Catherine made a few public appearances, including Trooping the Colour in June and the Wimbledon men’s singles final in July, where she received a standing ovation. However, Kensington Palace has confirmed that while the princess plans to take on a “handful” of engagements later this year, including possible appearances at Remembrance events in November, her health will remain her primary focus for the coming months.
The palace has not disclosed specific details about the type of cancer Catherine was treated for or whether she is officially cancer-free.
