President Tinubu Enforces Immediate Adherence to New Cost-Cutting Directives For Ministers and Agency Heads

—

As part of measures to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has restricted Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys, with no additional vehicles permitted for movement.

This decision was made public in a statement signed by the President on October 24, 2024.

In a continuation of his efforts to cut government expenses, Tinubu in January reduced the size of his entourage for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and for local trips from 50 to 25.

The Vice President’s entourage has also been limited to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

Additionally, the new directive stipulates that each minister and agency head may have a maximum of five security personnel, consisting of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. No extra security personnel will be assigned.

The President has tasked the National Security Adviser with coordinating with military and security agencies to further assess and implement reductions in both vehicle and security personnel allocations for these officials.

Compliance with these directives is expected to be immediate, signaling the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficiency in governance
