Premier League manager pledges support for Nigeria in AFCON final

Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, has expressed his full backing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as they gear up for the AFCON final against hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

The Eagles secured their spot in the final after a thrilling victory over South Africa, clinching the win 4-2 on penalties following a tense 1-1 draw in regular time.

Silva highlighted the significance of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, who have played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s journey to the final.

Despite their absence from Fulham’s lineup due to international duty, Silva acknowledged the challenge it posed for the team.

“It’s been tough for us without two key players,” Silva stated during a press conference ahead of Fulham’s league game against Bournemouth. “But we’ve been closely following their progress, and we’re fully behind them in the final.”

The upcoming clash holds added significance as Côte d’Ivoire seeks redemption for their previous loss against Nigeria in the group stage, where the Eagles emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win.

Despite a rocky start in the group stage, Côte d’Ivoire rallied in the knockout phase with impressive victories over Senegal, Mali, and DR Congo to secure their place in the final showdown.

As the anticipation builds for the AFCON final, both teams are gearing up for a fiercely contested battle on the field, with Nigeria aiming to reclaim the title and Côte d’Ivoire vying for their chance at redemption.
