Police nab three kidnappers in Abuja, arrest 16 other suspects, and seize advanced firearms

The Nigeria Police Force reported the successful arrest of three kidnappers based in Bwari, along with 13 other suspects involved in various offenses.

The arrests were made possible through the efforts of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), recently launched by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to enhance security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The SIS collaborated with the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section, and other State Commands.

The Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the three Bwari-based kidnappers—Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, all aged 27—were responsible for numerous armed robberies and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of Abuja.

Adejobi provided details of a proactive operation where a victim and his Hilux Van were abducted.

The Police, through an intelligence-driven investigation, discovered the victim being taken to Kano State but intercepted the criminals at a filling station in Kaduna.

Three suspects managed to escape, while Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael was arrested. The victim was rescued, and the Hilux Van was recovered.

The spokesperson revealed that Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael and his accomplices had been previously arrested in November 2023 for similar offenses but had resumed criminal activities while on court bail.

Additionally, the DFI-IRT intercepted Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, negotiating with notorious bandits for the purchase of illicit firearms and ammunition.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 11 pistols and two pump-action guns.

The overall achievements showcase the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to make the country a safer place.

The IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant, observe their surroundings, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police. These efforts signify a strong determination to create a secure environment for all citizens
