The Kaduna State Government has been informed by security agencies about an explosion in the Kidandan area of Giwa Local Government Area.

A tragic incident occurred as a school pupil named Zaidu Usman lost his life in the explosion, which took place in the Kidandan community.

According to Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, about ten injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika.

Preliminary reports from the traditional institution and security agencies suggest that one of the pupils, under the guidance of a local cleric, picked up an object from the bush, and sadly, it later exploded among his fellow pupils.

Zaidu Usman has been confirmed as the casualty, and the injured victims are undergoing treatment at the mentioned hospital.

Expressing shock and sadness, Governor Uba Sani has conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families, praying for the repose of Zaidu Usman’s soul and a speedy recovery for the wounded.

The Governor has urged parents and community leaders to enhance vigilance over the activities of their children and wards, recognizing their vulnerability to various dangers.

In response to the incident, Governor Sani has directed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to collaborate with security agencies for an immediate investigation into the explosion’s cause.

The primary objectives are to ensure the safety of residents, provide emergency support, and facilitate prompt medical attention for the victims.

It was previously reported that at least nine children sustained injuries in the Kidandan explosion, which occurred on a Saturday afternoon.

This unfortunate event comes just four days after an explosion in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, resulting in five fatalities and over 70 serious injuries.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the recent incident, with spokesperson Mansir Hassan expressing condolences and describing the situation as unfortunate.

The information was received through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), acknowledging the area’s significance as an operational zone for security agencies conducting operations in the bush.

Hassan said, “We received the information through the DPO (divisional police officer). You know that area is the operational area where the security agencies are conducting a lot of operations in the bush.”

All the injured children have been transported to hospitals for necessary medical treatment.
