The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnapper’s hideout and apprehended one suspect during an operation in Gidan Akuya Village, located in Keana Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development to journalists on Sunday in Lafia.
According to Nansel, the operation forms part of the command’s sustained offensive against kidnapping and other violent criminal activities across the state.
He explained that the success of the raid followed credible intelligence received by security operatives.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), successfully busted the hideout of a notorious kidnapper at Gidan Akuya Village in Keana LGA,” he said.
Nansel noted that the suspects attempted to escape upon noticing the approaching operatives, but the police swiftly pursued them, leading to the arrest of one individual.
He added that a search of the hideout yielded several weapons.
“A thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine and one locally fabricated rifle as exhibits,” he said.
The police spokesman further revealed that during interrogation, the arrested suspect admitted involvement in multiple kidnapping operations within the Keana and Awe areas of the state.
He said the suspect had also provided vital information that is aiding ongoing investigations and efforts to track down other members of the gang who fled during the raid.
Nansel disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, has directed operatives to intensify the manhunt for the fleeing suspects to ensure they are apprehended and brought to justice.
The police spokesperson, speaking on behalf of the commissioner, praised the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, while assuring residents that the command remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property across Nasarawa State.
