The Nasarawa Police Command reported on Thursday that their officers successfully apprehended a well-known armed robbery suspect and an individual posing as a soldier in fake military attire.
According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, who conveyed the information on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Shehu Nadada, the arrest was made possible through the efforts of the Command’s Anti-robbery team.
The incident occurred on January 10, 2023, around 11:30 AM when the Anti-robbery team acted on credible intelligence.
While on an intelligence-led patrol along Fadaman Bauna, they intercepted a group of three young men suspected to be armed robbers riding on an unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle.
Upon spotting the police, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to escape. However, a determined pursuit led to the arrest of one Kabiru Alhaji Yusuf, while the other two managed to evade capture.
A subsequent search of Yusuf revealed an AK 47 rifle and the unregistered motorcycle, both seized as evidence.
In a separate incident on January 6, 2024, around 5:39 PM, one Muhammed Haladu was apprehended in Awe LGA wearing full military camouflage.
He was handed over to the police by two soldiers who were on leave. Haladu claimed to be a soldier attached to 231 Battalion Biu, Borno, but further investigation disproved his assertions.
It was discovered during preliminary investigations that the suspect had attempted to join the military but failed.
Consequently, he resorted to purchasing a military uniform from a barracks to carry out fraudulent activities, specifically deceiving unsuspecting individuals under the guise of facilitating employment into the Nigerian Army.
CP Nadada, while commending the officers for their diligence, urged them to maintain their commitment in the ongoing fight against criminal activities within the state.
The successful operations underscore the importance of proactive policing and collaboration with the community to ensure public safety.
