—

The former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi has donated ten million naira to the College of Nursing Sciences,  St Gerald Hospital, Kaduna, Kaduna state.

This was after the Labour Party Chieftain earlier visited Madarasatul Hidayyatul Auladi Muslimima Kawo, Kaduna and FOMWAN Hospital in Badarawa, Kaduna, the Kaduna state capital.

Established in 1957, St Gerald Hospital is one of the oldest of such facilities in Northern Nigeria, while the establishment of the College of Nursing Sciences followed thereafter.

During the visit, Obi emphasized that by investing in the training of more health workers, Nigeria will build a strong health sector and effectively contribute to human and national development.

Today, with about a thousand students , the College has continued to train nurses who play very vital roles in our health sector[b]. I supported them with the sum of N10 million for the training of more healthcare professionals.

Health remains a critical contributor to national development and one of the critical measures of the human development index. I have continued to encourage investments in the human infrastructure of the health sector, which is the training and encouragement of healthcare professionals”. He added.

While urging the governments, donor agencies and other well-meaning Nigerians to join in supporting the training of more nurses and healthcare professionals for the ultimate development of the country, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 general elections maintained that building a very functional health sector remains critical in the journey to a New Nigeria.
